Mining Services Provider Thiess Adopts First Locally Made GEH2 Hydrogen Generator

Blue Diamond Machinery, in collaboration with Toyota Motor Corporation, have supplied the first locally assembled GEH2 Hydrogen Generator to leading mining services provider Thiess.

Developed by French company EODev, the GEH2 is the first of its kind locally assembled in Altona, Victoria. It marks a significant step for driving sustainability in Australia.

Adopting the GEH2 aligns with Thiess’ ambition to achieve net zero emissions by 2050.

“Thiess is determined to make a meaningful contribution towards decarbonising the world’s resources sector,” said Ramesh Liyanage, Group Executive Assets, Autonomy & Digital at Thiess.

Moving towards low emission power solutions like the GEH2 reflects Thiess’ commitment to a sustainable energy transition and mitigating the impacts of climate change.

The GEH2 is designed to replace diesel generators on large-scale mining and construction projects. It uses hydrogen, a Toyota Mirai fuel cell and a lithium-ion battery to produce 100kVA of clean, quiet and instant power without greenhouse gases or pollutants.

The only by-product is water and heat, making the GEH2 a great solution for mining companies like Thiess looking to reduce emissions throughout their supply chain.

Thiess is committed to being at the forefront of sustainable mining, leveraging the power of clean technologies like the GEH2 to support clients in their journey to more sustainable enterprises.
